Of Saving the Rhinos

Of Saving the Rhinos

Ok ok I'm not kidding, I have seen a rhino I swear to you I even touched it. It was a glorious moment a few years back when I was in South Africa. Rhinos are one of the five most endangered animals in Africa and I told myself that I just had to see it for myself. I didn't know why rhinos were even special at all. I mean, they're ugly, they're grey and dirty and big and heavy! But what totally sold me over was they have horns.

Animals with horns completely sway me I don't know why. So when my host father pointed out the rhinos and lectured me on why they're a protected species, I was, for a few seconds, very angry at people who did all that poaching and deforestation in the jungle. I even swore to find all those people, round them up and get the rhinos to horn them to death! (horny rhino wtf - Baz)

But of course, I forgot all about my passion to save this horned animal once I got back to Malaysia wtf.

So the other day I saw this article on Sumatran Rhinos (badak sumbu as they're fondly called here) and the same feeling I felt for the African Rhinos came flooding back. There I was in a foreign land feeling passionate about saving a foreign animal when back home we have the same issue but I had no inkling about it at all?!

(badak sumbu do you remember badak sumbu! I used to call a friend badak sumbu wtf without actually knowing what that is)

Ok so now I do. Great. Whall shall I do now?

Superimpose myself with a Sumatran rhino to cover my shame of course!

(photo of rhino credited to WWF Malaysia)

Ok so it is a bad picture but with no Photoshop and only Paint to work with, it's a rather decent job ok!
Ok so I look like I am punching the rhino's butt but it's also a gesture of friendliness ok!
Ok ok so I look like both my legs are chopped off but..

Let's continue with this article shall we! (but I do look rather slim..)

So anyway yeah, that's what a Sumatran rhino looks like.

These rhinos are mainly found in Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia and Indonesia and zomg do you know that there are only 300 of them left..in..this..WORLD?!

That's like the number of people in one floor in Sg Wang!
That's like the number of camwhore pictures I take in 5 minutes!
Holy gomolly that's like..the show 300 wtf.

300 of them are just far too few rhinos around ok *big wet eyes

I was reading this article on Honda's commitment to saving the rhinos along with WWF Malaysia and how Honda also pledged a five year commitment to save these Sumatran Rhinos from extinction. What a great move right! I mean, finally, someone is doing something worthwhile in this country. Huff puff.

Honda has also pledged a total of RM 5 million to WWF Malaysia oh how I wish I can do that too! After more research, apparently there were a lot other things that Honda did (which I also had no inklings about) like their School Programme which they educate and raise awareness on Sumatran rhinos to primary school kids.

Before this, no corporation has stepped forward to commit itself totally to saving the Sumatran rhinos because it's considered to be one of the most challenging conservation efforts.

So c'mon people,

The Sumatran rhino is a national natural heritage in Malaysia and Honda already seek to do their part in preserving it for Malaysia's future generations and here I am doing the same thing too.

I know maybe I myself can't do much by telling you about this alone. I don't know how many of you actually read everything I wrote and feel the same sentiment I'm feeling now and I know you probably don't know what the hell you can do too but let me tell you this, by being aware that Sumatran Rhinos even exist, by caring and telling other people what I just told you, you just did your part.

In fact if you're a blogger, there's something you can do! All you have to do is embed this logo on your blog (like what I did!) or write something like this in your blog to show that you truly care!
(and if you want, leave a comment to tell me if you fully support this cause or not ok! i wanna see if my blog readers are truly caring and kind or just cruel cold-hearted bastards wtf)

I did my part and I hope everyone will do theirs too.
